INVIDIA WINES

THE ONLY AUSTRALIAN WHOLESALER OF WORLDCLASS & AWARD WINNING SWISS MERLOT

About Us

My passion for Swiss wine was born later in life. Having moved out of home when I was 18, I left Switzerland just shy of my 24th birthday before having the opportunity to really discover and appreciate all of what was being grown around me. I found my way to Australia and planted my roots here in Brisbane in 2001. During the last few years, I’ve travelled back to Switzerland with my wife and two children, re-familiarising myself with friends, family and all that Switzerland has to offer. I wasn’t expecting to be introduced to the region’s exceptional wine culture - one that we have now brought back with us and really savoured. When most people think about Switzerland they think about watches, chocolates, cheese and banks – wine doesn’t usually make the list! It will surprise many to know that in fact, Ticino (the Italian speaking region, south of the Swiss Alps) started making wine almost 2000 years ago, with the first record of a planted vine in the area dating back to 58BC. I was born and grew up in Ticino, a region with about 3,869 vineyards covering 1,150-ha of the 28,120-ha total land area. The region is comprised of a series of steep valleys nestled between tall mountains (6000-8000ft) and is home to around 350,000 people and 140 varieties of grapes – that’s over half of the 252 species grown in Switzerland. With several unique ecological and geographical aspects, the region is well-primed with ideal growing conditions for Merlot, which over the last decade has been perfected to deliver internationally renowned and award-winning wines. So, why haven’t you heard more about Swiss wines? Possibly, because the Swiss population consumes 99% of its wine production while drinking a third more wine than Australians! I wanted to start importing some of the great, award-winning wines, and I soon learned that these are made even more special by the unique stories of the people that grow them, and who blend the use of new innovations promoting sustainability with the continued influence of ancient techniques to make excellent wine. Now it is time for me to share this untapped and unknown treasure with the place I now call home. Here you will find a sample of the wines that we are currently importing into Australia, and which are available to local and interstate retailers. Whether you run a restaurant, a wine bar or are a boutique Wine Cellar, this is the opportunity to add great and unique wines not currently available anywhere else in this country. To find out more, book a tasting* or order please feel free to contact us. * Sample shippent due to arrive in Australia towards the end of May 2025.
